Canada's Rapid Expansion of Euthanasia

Euthanasia, or medically assistance in dying (MAiD), has expanded rapidly in Canada since its legalization in 2016. It’s gone from exceptional to routine, in other words, to become one of the leading causes of death in the country. Rebecca Vachon, program director for Health at Cardus, joined the podcast Concepts with Shawn Whatley  to discuss the issue and its implications for the future.

“I think we definitely have normalized [euthanasia] in Canada,” Rebecca Vachon tells podcast. “The fact that it is part of the healthcare system…creates this idea of normalization.”
